WE EVEN AMAZED OURSELVES!
Ashton Seals have supplied what we are hoping is one of the largest O-Rings ever made.
Please let us know if you know of a bigger one.
Ours was for a Nitrile O-Ring with an 8.3m Circumference, a 2.6m Internal Diameter and 14mm section to be fitted into a tank lid.
The customer supplied the tank groove dimensions, but normal O-Ring fitting guidelines do not apply on a seal of this size so we had to develop the size to suit the fitting application.
Extremely accurate measuring was required that tested Matthew Wood our Quality Manager but he came up trumps.
The problems we had to overcome:
- The awkward positioning made it difficult for the engineer to feed it into the groove without stretching.
- The seal had to be fed into the groove a little at a time to ensure minimum stretch.
- Due to its weight the tank lid could not be removed therefore fitting had to be conducted in situ.
