PFAS Developments

Please find below important information regarding the proposed restrictions on PFASs: per- and poly-fluoroalkylated substances.

There are several thousand PFAS including fluoroplastics and fluoroelastomers.

Examples of fluoroplastics: PTFE, PVDF, PFA, FEP, PCTFE

Examples of fluoroelastomers: FKM, FPM, FFPM, FVMQ

At the beginning of February 2023, a massive restriction project of PFAS was submitted to ECHA by 5 European countries (Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands).

On March 22, 2023, a 6-month consultation period started, during which ECHA is identifying industrial applications of PFAS. At the end of this period, ECHA's recommendations will be sent to the European Commission, which will then be responsible for legislating.

Different scenarios are possible, including a strong restriction or even a total ban of PFAS. In the short or medium term, the sealing industry will be impacted.
